Los Coyotes access

From what I'm reading, there is a possibility that the owners of Los Coyotes Indian reservation are willing to open its doors to 4 wheeling again. Evidently, they might allow clubs to access and wheel their trails once again.

I don't know about you guys, but I would love the opportunity to offroad this area once again!!

Anyone know of this?

Anyone have contacts that could get is on the guest list if this goes through?!

I post this here because I think it is a sensitive subject, and if our club can get involved, we would want to be able to control access to possible future runs.

What say you?

This has been blowing in the wind a couple of years now. Not to long ago afew members here and from the SoCal XJ yahoo group got to go there.

I would love to see it happen. I bought my Cherokee just prior to it being closed to 4 wheeling.

The question left open in the discussion is; if there are enough clubs to clean the mentioned areas and trails of debris and such, will there be a continued access to the area or will it be closed off again after all the needed work is done?
There needs to be a guarantee drafted that all clubs involved will have access to the area after putting all the work into it.

Yeah, I don't see any guarantees... I have the cell # of a guy (Jerry W) who was trying to open it for access a couple years ago, but I don't know if he's currently involved or not...

I did get to go out there twice (once in my rig, once riding shotgun) during that last scout-out thing that got our hopes up before they were crushed.

I went with one of the groups who did this a couple of years ago.

The trails weren't in bad shape really, there was some overgrowth but not a lot needed to be done.

I have a feeling that they could care less about cleaning up the place. The last time I was there, 10 years ago memorial weekend, there were abandoned cars and trash left all over the place in the residential areas of their land. The trails were the cleanest roads out there.

I just hope to someday run those trails again.

I wouldn't see it as a waste of time to do clean up there even if it didn't result in a permanent opening. I would see it as building a relationship with the management.

Anybody here have an in with the tribe? A point of contact would be good, build up a relationship and maybe we can work our way in as a club.

what I see them doing is inviting in off-road groups and clubs to do a clean up and discuss opening the area for use again just to get free labor on cleaning up the trails but they really have no intentions of opening the trails even for limited use.... this has been going on for years, every two or three years they invite a group and make promises that have never been followed through with, or they may talk about it in passing but as you can see, its been years and still, no use permitted.... we can keep doing their work, maintaining their lands, keeping their trails cleared for them in hopes they finally say okay but I don't see it happening.... still makes us look environmentally friendly but also makes us look like suckers.... fair trade in my book!!! HAHAHAHA

just an observation....

That's exactly what I thought and the reason for my question about a written guarantee for club access. Thanks Troy.

There is no all-access wheeling allowed to the general public. They stopped that because people were trashing the place and creating new trails. As told to us, the land has always belonged to their family and sensitive areas are all throughout the reservation. There is public camping in the campground and hiking is allowed. They are willing to work with clubs to allow group four wheeling, but they will escort you around, as happened yesterday.
I was lucky enough to go and the young man who showed us around was a really nice guy. They are into four wheeling, the great outdoors and having a great time - but if you're d-bag, they'll kick your ass out and have no problems kicking out the whole club either.
They aren't asking for help or cleanup crews as suggested above. They didn't even ask for a dime. It looks like the residential areas have been cleaned up and the entrance road has been paved for a little ways into the main campground. The trails are thick with vegetation and not all areas are accessible because of that - the old mine for example. The trails were a blast. El Hill is still steep and loose as shit. Bronco Hill has a nice little step at the top. Bobsled is a nasty, winch only, dump you on your side V notch. And the scenery was beautiful. :)
